Its integral solenoid valve provides the sharp cut-off that the burner control demands. The pump is driven by the burner motor through a shaft coupling; rotation direction must match the motor. Selection of a replacement pump of this class is based on single- or two-pipe operation, capacity and pressure range, shaft and mounting pattern, and connection thread sizes. Preheaters are fitted on pumps that handle heavier oil grades to improve atomisation; an integral filter protects the pump and nozzle from debris. Typical failures include worn gears that reduce delivered pressure, a weak pressure regulator that lets the nozzle pressure drift, a leaking shaft seal, and solenoid coil failure that leaves the burner unable to cut off fuel cleanly, causing after-drip or a lockout condition. When replacing a pump of this type, verify that the shaft extension and keyway dimensions match the motor coupling, and confirm the pressure range suits the burner’s nozzle specification. The pump’s direction of rotation – viewed from the shaft end – must also be correct for the burner model.
