The hp-Technik B-GH-E/3 is an oil bypass valve, a component used in oil burner fuel supply systems. In a typical oil burner, the pump draws fuel from the tank and delivers it under pressure to the nozzle. An integral solenoid valve provides the sharp cut-off that the burner control requires. A bypass valve of this type manages oil flow that is not directed to the nozzle, returning excess fuel to the tank or recirculating it within the pump, depending on whether the system operates on a one-pipe or two-pipe configuration. This helps maintain stable pressure at the nozzle and prevents over-pressurisation of the pump. Parts of this class are selected based on several parameters: rotation direction (clockwise or counter-clockwise as seen from the shaft), whether the burner uses single-pipe or two-pipe supply (the latter requires a return line to the tank), capacity and pressure range, shaft and mounting pattern, and connection thread sizes. A mismatch in rotation direction or pressure rating can prevent the burner from achieving its specified firing rate. Common failure modes for such valves include worn gears that reduce pressure consistency, weak pressure regulation causing unstable flow, leaking shaft seals that allow air ingress or fuel leakage, and solenoid coil failure that leaves the burner unable to cut off fuel cleanly. During replacement, check the solenoid coil continuity and inspect the seals for signs of wear or contamination. Ensure the valve is installed with the correct orientation relative to the pump and that all pipe connections are tightened to the manufacturer’s torque specification to avoid leaks.
