The Fluidics W2-450-60 nozzle (catalogue article 480.892.109) belongs to the category of oil nozzles. In an oil burner, the nozzle is the component that atomises the fuel oil into a fine spray, which mixes with combustion air and burns as a stable flame. It sits at the end of the oil line, just inside the combustion head, and works together with the oil pump, solenoid valve, and – in heavy-oil systems – a preheater. The pump delivers fuel at a controlled pressure, the solenoid valve opens the flow, and the nozzle converts that flow into a precisely shaped cone. Parts of this type are precision consumables. The three parameters that define the nozzle’s behaviour are the flow rate (given in GPH or kg/h at a reference pressure, typically 7 bar or 10 bar), the spray angle, and the spray pattern (hollow, solid, or semi-solid). All three must match the burner manufacturer’s specification on the data plate. Using the correct rating but the wrong pattern can cause sooting, ignition instability, or pulsation. The thread size (often 1/8" BSP or 1/4" BSP) must also fit the nozzle holder. When replacing a nozzle, always install a new one – cleaning is not reliable because the internal orifice and swirl chamber wear and clog irreversibly. Compare the old nozzle’s markings with the burner data plate. If the existing nozzle has been in service for several heating seasons, consider replacing it even if the burner appears to run normally, because a worn nozzle increases fuel consumption and flue gas temperatures.
