This article is an ignition cable – the high-voltage lead that connects the ignition transformer to the ignition electrode in a gas burner or boiler. Parts of this type carry the stepped-up voltage that creates the spark at the electrode gap. The cable is silicone-insulated to withstand both the high voltage and the heat near the combustion zone. When the burner control initiates the ignition sequence, the transformer energises the cable, and the spark ignites the gas-air mixture. The cable operates only during the ignition period, under command from the burner control. A gas line cable is selected primarily by its length, terminal type (straight or angled boot, threaded or push-on connector), and the connector pattern that matches the transformer and electrode. The insulation condition is critical – a hardened, cracked, or chafed cable can leak the spark to earth, causing a weak or absent spark at the electrode. Such a fault often mimics a failed ignition transformer, so inspecting the cable should be part of any no-spark diagnosis. Replacing a cable of this type requires matching the original connector style and ensuring the new cable has sufficient clearance from hot surfaces and sharp edges. The cable is a passive component; its direct neighbours are the ignition transformer and the ignition electrode.
