This is an ignition electrode for burners that rely on spark ignition. Parts of this type deliver the high-voltage spark needed to ignite the fuel-air mixture during the start sequence. In a typical burner control system, the control box energises the ignition transformer, which sends a high-tension pulse to the electrode tip. The spark jumps to a ground electrode or to the burner head surface. The electrode sits in the flame zone and is a consumable component; its tip and insulator are exposed to direct heat and electrical erosion. When selecting a replacement electrode of this class, the critical parameters are the overall length and bend of the rod, the diameter and material of the ceramic insulator, the spark gap setting, and the mounting flange style. These dimensions must match the geometry of the combustion head and the ground electrode path. Burner manufacturers shape the electrode for a specific combustion head or burner series, so the correct profile is essential for reliable ignition. Typical failure modes include a worn or eroded tip that reduces spark intensity, cracks in the ceramic caused by thermal cycling, a soot layer that bridges the gap, and a gap that has drifted open due to vibration or handling. All of these can cause delayed ignition or a no-spark condition. Inspect the insulator for cracks and measure the gap against the burner manual when replacing.
