The Siemens SQM48.497A9 is an actuator from the SQM series, a type used to position air dampers and mixing valves in burner and boiler systems. Actuators of this class translate a control signal into rotational movement, which adjusts the air flow through the combustion air damper or the mixing ratio in a three-way or four-way valve. In a boiler system, the actuator sits between the burner control and the mechanical damper or valve: the burner control sends a signal (three-point, 0-10 V, or on/off) and the actuator drives the shaft to the required angle, typically 90° or 160°. Selection of such an actuator is based on torque, running time, control signal type, shaft or coupling pattern, angle of rotation, and whether integral auxiliary switches are needed for feedback or interlock.
