The Honeywell ZT812 1260001 is an ignition transformer, a component used in burner systems to generate the high-voltage spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture. During the ignition sequence, the burner control energises the transformer for a defined period, stepping the mains voltage up to a level sufficient to create a spark across the ignition electrode gap. Once flame is established, the transformer is de-energised until the next start cycle. Parts of this type are selected primarily by their secondary voltage and current rating, which must match the electrode gap and the burner control's requirements. Primary voltage is typically 230 V, though 110 V and 24 V variants exist; the duty cycle (how long the transformer can operate continuously) is also a critical parameter. Mounting pattern, terminal type, and the connector arrangement for the high-voltage cable must fit the existing burner assembly. The ignition cable itself is silicone-insulated to withstand high voltage and heat; a cracked or hardened cable can leak the spark to earth, causing a false fault indication that may lead to unnecessary transformer replacement. When sourcing a replacement ignition transformer, confirm the primary voltage and the physical dimensions of the mounting base and terminals. The cable and electrode condition should be inspected before assuming the transformer is faulty. The transformer works directly with the ignition electrode and is commanded by the burner control; it does not interact with other safety components such as pressure switches or valves.
